In a significant move toward strengthening Nigeria’s pharmaceutical supply chain, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in collaboration with GS1 Nigeria, officially unveiled a group of accredited Solution Providers on July 22, 2025. These Solution Providers will play a key role in supporting the implementation of traceability solutions across the country’s healthcare sector.
The event, held in Lagos, brought together representatives from NAFDAC, GS1 Nigeria, technology companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and supply chain stakeholders. The atmosphere was one of shared purpose and progress as participants discussed the future of pharmaceutical traceability in Nigeria and how technology can help drive safer and more transparent operations.
Each Solution Provider presented their platform, highlighting how their tools will enable the serialization, tracking, and verification of pharmaceutical products throughout the supply chain. These solutions are designed to help organizations comply with NAFDAC’s traceability requirements, which are aligned with global GS1 standards.
The unveiling marks a major milestone in the second phase of Nigeria’s Pharmaceutical Traceability Strategy, which is aimed at ensuring that medicines can be tracked from production to the point of sale. This effort is essential in combating counterfeit and substandard medicines, protecting public health, and building trust in the healthcare system.
Beyond the product showcases, the event provided a valuable forum for engagement. Stakeholders had the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and gain clarity on how to begin or improve their traceability implementation. The collaborative nature of the event demonstrated the collective commitment to digital transformation within the healthcare and pharmaceutical space.

GS1 Nigeria also used the opportunity to reaffirm its support for both the regulatory goals of NAFDAC and the readiness of stakeholders across the industry. The organization continues to play a central role in building awareness, providing training, and ensuring the smooth adoption of global identification and traceability standards.
